i'm as author would like to share something nice about "Guru" in meditation terms..Well i got this knowledge through a Guru of mine..This is what he told us too in our weekly satsang..every Monday. I was very excited to see the same meaning of the word guru as he mentioned..
Old Hindu text Advayataraka Upanishad (14Ð18), defines Guru as "dispeller (gu) of darkness (ru)". It is widely accepted for centuries that Guru means one who "gives light" or "leads to light" by eradicating the darkness of ignorance.
